Dear Friends,
Thanks for taking time to check us out! The following shares what I believe is a very compelling story. It is the story of still believing that the apostolic genius of the first century church is available to you and me today - that it is ready to be rediscovered and reactivated. It is the crazy idea that we can pursue God's dream for his community. I believe that the body of Christ can return to a church on mission. Something inside me (perhaps you) says to go for it - to cling to ancient promises of Jesus that we can change the world. I believe with all my heart that if we align ourselves with God's purpose and mission in our lives, he will stand with us. When we join with Him in this quest, we open the door to unspeakable joy and opportunity; the feeling that only comes from being reconnected with the mission of God.
Sojourn is a community of people from all walks of life seeking to adjust their lives around the teachings of Jesus. We hope that our presence will bring into clear focus this real and living Person to anyone watching. We are not a place to go, but a people for which to belong - a people called to live out the Good News of God's Kingdom in every niche of culture.
If there is something in you that suspects God might be up to something, then I want to encourage you to look further and consider embarking on this journey with us.
Sojourner with you, Pastor Jeff
Our Mission
The Sojourn community exists to encounter God, equip people and engage our city.
Our Vision
Our vision is to give birth to a nondenominational church in the Northwest quadrant of Greensboro, North Carolina, that is strategic, missional and reproducing. This community will center itself on Worship, Discipleship and Mission done in the context of a covenantal community.
The Gospel
The 'gospel' is the good news that through Christ the power of God's kingdom has entered history to renew the whole world. When we believe and rely on Jesus' work and record (rather than ours) for our relationship to God, that kingdom power comes upon us and begins to work through us.
Greensboro
We believe that nothing promotes the peace and health of the Greensboro and the surrounding Triad area like the spread of faith in the gospel. It renews both individual lives and reweaves the fabric of whole neighborhoods. We believe that nothing moves Christians to humbly serve, live with, and love all the diverse people of the city like the gospel does.
Worship
Worship changes the worshiper into the image of the one worshiped. God created man to worship. He created us to reflect His greatness, His glory. Those who have discovered this truth pursue with passion and purpose the genuine response to who God is and what He has done.
Prayer
We believe that Biblically and historically, the one non-negotiable, universal ingredient in times of spiritual renewal is corporate, prevailing, intensive and kingdom-centered prayer. We believe that this kind of prayer must serve as the basis of all ministries at Sojourn.
Discipleship
Discipleship is becoming more like and following the ways of Jesus the purpose of which is to become mature, engage in God’s mission on earth and to disciple others to do the same. Our success as a church community is absolutely dependent on creating an environment where people can grow in the likeness of Jesus. We believe that all disciples carry within themselves the potential for world transformation.
Mission
At Sojourn we joyfully invite every person to faith in Jesus, and following His model, we desire to love and serve our neighbors whether they believe as we do or not. We do this by using our gifts and resources for the needs of others, especially the poor. And more than merely meeting individual needs, we work for justice for the powerless.
Community
The gospel creates a new community, which not only nurtures individuals but also serves as a sign of God's coming kingdom. Here we see classes of people loving one another who could not have gotten along without the healing power of the gospel. Sojourn will be a church of small groups.
Movement
We believe that biblical ministry is replicating and cooperative. We are therefore committed to the church planting movement and networking with other like minded churches in our area that share an interest in working together for the spiritual, social and cultural renewal of Greensboro and the Triad area.
